Greater Victoria Youth Rowing Society

What We Do

Mandate
The GVYRS constitution states that the purpose of the our non-profit society is to "encourage high school rowing and youth rowing in the Greater Victoria area".

To that end, the GVYRS works to "acquire boats, oars and other equipment necessary for the instruction in and practice of rowing and for competition in high school and youth rowing".

High School League
Traditionally, the focus of the GVYRS is to facilitate the Lower Vancouver Island High School Rowing League.  This league takes place in the Fall every year.  The GVYRS provides equipment and facility access for student-athletes. It also plans and operates regattas in conjunction with LVISSAA school sponsors and coaches.

Legacy
Since the inaugural LVISSAA School season in 1987, several athletes who began rowing with a high school team in the Greater Victoria area, have gone on to represent Canada in international competition.
